Wilder Girls by Rory Power

Title: Wilder Girls
Author: Rory Power
Publication Date: July 2019

It's been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her.

It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.

But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there's more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.
“𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒑𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌. 𝑶𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒚 𝒐𝒘𝒏."

This book has been receiving a serious and over hyped buzz from bookstagram community,  not just because of its gorgeous cover, it also has a teaser that would really make you crave for it. It has an excellent writing style. It was gory and horror rolled into one. I am still thinking if ever this book be adopted into movie, how would they show the gory and horror things that was happening with the girls.
"It's like that, with all of us here. Sick, strange, and we don't know why. Things bursting out of us, bits missing and pieces sloughing off, and then we harden and smooth over."
There used to be horses, four of them, but early in the first season, we noticed how the Tox was starting to get inside them like it got inside us, how it was pushing their bones through their skin, how it was stretching their bodies until they screamed. So we led them out to the water and shot them.

The two major factor why am giving this book a three stars is because:

First, I was not informed that this book is "Gay". Please do not judge me for my preference, but I have been very honest with my co-readers that I am totally not into this type of books no matter how hard I have tried reading this type of genre. But still it did not stop me to admire the courage and braveness of the characters to survive.

Secondly, The plot lacks continuous "page turner" I was expecting. The first few chapters was really hyped. I was really hooked. But then the story just started to become a little bit repetitive for me, to the point wherein it was already almost a few chapters away and still no answers or even a glimpse of what was happening to them. Its just continuous bickering and blaming. A lot of questions left unanswered.

Overall, I would have given it 5 stars with pleasure if it hadn’t been so slow. It was captivating, it was just bit slow-paced. It also has an abrupt ending. Readers will be left wondering if there will be a sequel. But still this book is worth the read. I would really be interested in reading the next book if there is one.

I would like to thank @times.reads for the complimentary copy of this book!
