She's a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title—and drop-dead beauty.

She's a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. she's leading a double life: She has a rare ability to sense the sìthíchean—the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans—and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.

She's a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons—from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols—ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.

She's a Falconer.
The last in a line of female warriors born with a gift for hunting and killing the fae, Aileana is the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity. Suddenly, her quest is a lot more complicated. She still longs to avenge her mother's murder—but she'll have to save the world first.

The first volume of a trilogy from an exciting new voice in young adult fantasy, this electrifying thriller combines romance and action, steampunk technology and Scottish lore in a deliciously addictive read.

Great start. Action-packed scenes. And a total Bad-ass heroine. This book is totally worth every penny you spend for a book. It has a mixture of fantasy, romance, camaraderie and family. I for starters are not a fan of a historical fiction setting, but this book definitely surpassed my unwillingness to read a book that has that kind of setting. So, yes, that is how good and very engaging this book is.

Lady Aileana Kameron: The only daughter of Marquess of Douglas. Beautiful, wealthy and at night she slays faeries, hunts them and kill them.

I swing the hammer back and slam it into the redcap's temple. Blood bursts at me, splatters warm across my face. And a single thought echoes in my mind: More.

The character development of Aileana is so refreshing that I rarely find it in YA books.
I lean in, indecently close. "You underestimate me," I whisper. "And that is a mistake."
Kiaran. Oh Kiaran! I literally loved his character too! He's bossy and harsh at times with Aileana, But I just loved the slow-burning romance between him and the female lead. No super nice guy that will leave you gagging for too much sweetness.
“Kiaran and I have little connection beyond our names. We battle, bleed and hunt together almost every night. He teaches me how to slaughter in the most effective, brutal ways possible. But I've never told Kiaran why I hunt, and he has never told me why he kills his own kind. This is our ritual, our dance. The only one that matters.”
If you are looking for strong female characters who kick ass and a story that is fun and action packed, this book is definitely it.I love this book, and I'm ready to start the second book. I just hope no Cliffhanger for the third book.
